David, Generalist

Area of Expertise

Antique dealer from father to son since 1980, David offers furniture and works of art from the 18th century through to the modern 20th century.

What is your background?

I studied carpentry, cabinetmaking. I learned the basics: mounting veneer, wood species. I grew up in a flea market environment because my father has practiced the trade since the 80s.

When I was 18 years old I started to go to the flea store in Saint Ouen with my father and to bargain-hunt. At that time the job was easy, we sold things quickly, the flea market in Saint Ouen was very popular.

What is your area of expertise? What do you like most about your speciality?

I have a period that I really like, the 19th century around paintings, objects, furniture, bronzes, things of quality during this period.

The lines, the quality of the materials, the selection of veneers. At that time, the craftsmen had time to work. Things were very well done.

Which piece do you like the most and why?

I love bronzes, the only missing thing is if they could speak. They have gone through centuries, in different families. The object has a soul.
